Skating and Skee Ball

March 27, 2012 by Trina 3 Comments

Last week I took the kids to the skating rink even though I had a sneaking suspicion Xander would have no part in skating.  After we got there I suggested he play the arcade games with the money I would have spent on skates.

Bad move.  Those 18 quarters were gone in less than 10 minutes.  But he loved him some skee ball.

Rayna had been begging to go back to the skating rink since last November so this girl didn’t have time to stop for pics.

Funny story…about 20 or 30 minutes into our skating adventure one of the little boys that was there started following Rayna everywhere.  If she stopped to rest so did he.  It was cute…at first.  Then it started to really get annoying… like when he followed us to wash our hands for snack time then hovered near our table while we ate.  After that, we told Rayna to speak up for herself and tell him to stop following her.  I want her to know how to handle these things if we aren’t around so I wanted her to tell him.  She did and he left her alone after that.

We had a great time.  At first I wasn’t sure if I would skate or not because I knew Xander wouldn’t.  After much pleading he finally caved {and he had fun!} so I got me some skates.  It was weird putting those things on and skating my 30-something self around the rink while making sure my kid didn’t end up doing the splits in front of me.

I’m pretty sure last time I had on a pair of skates I was wearing tight rolled jeans and sporting a huge bow in my hair.  My friends and I skated around that rink without a care in the world while jamming to Def Leopard and my most pressing life issue was did that cute boy named Stephen think I was cute too.

Did you hang out at the skating rink when you were in middle school?  If not, what was your hang out?

2012 Week 12

Was this week SPRING BREAK for anyone else?!

We didn’t go anywhere exciting but I did take Thursday and Friday off to be with the kiddos.  I’ll have to post more of those pics this week but here is my week in photos.

March 18 – I made this Peach Crunch Cake {aka Peach DUMP Cake because all you do is dump everything in a pan and bake}.  Do yourself a favor and make this.  I’m warning you though, it’s highly addictive and may cause you to gain some extra L.B.’s.  Just sayin’.

March 19 – New mani.  Moxie by Zoya {and they pinned it to their pinboard!}

March 20 – I might keep polish on my fingernails at all times, but my toes were seriously neglected until Tuesday when they got a coat of shiny red polish {Sooki by Zoya}.

March 21 – I got the awesome privilege of participating in a video focus group for Southern Living magazine.  It was being shot for their national sales meeting coming up this week.  I hope I’m able to see the finished product, if so I’ll let you all know!  We were given a gift card to a local restaurant and this gorgeous Southern Living Heirloom Cookbook for our time.  I love it!

March 22 – I was off work so I took the kiddos skating with my friend Ami and my brother and my niece.   Rayna had been begging to go back to the skating rink since we went to a party there in November.  They had a blast!

March 23 – It was a rainy day so I took the kids to the new town library and we came back to make homemade pizza.  Even the pizza dough and sauce was homemade!  So proud of myself for pulling it off even if it did take me three hours from start to finish haha.  I actually made two; a spinach and feta pizza for hubs and me and a cheese pizza for the kids.

March 24 – We had a lazy Saturday morning…look who came and crawled into bed with me!

WIWW on All Things Chic

Happy Spring y’all.  I tried to dress a bit more springy this weekend, but I still couldn’t manage to keep away from black.  It is clear:  I need more Spring pieces in my wardrobe.  I just feel so much more comfortable in black that it’s hard to break out of that.

Anyway, I got hubs to take my pics this week.  Rayna has not been into and the pictures she’s taking shows.  Hope you enjoy this outfit!

2012 Week 11

March 19, 2012 by Trina 3 Comments

March 11 – After church we went to eat with my brother, his girlfriend and our mom for his birthday.  He choose PF Chang’s and this was my fortune.  Amen and amen!  haha

March 12 – A rare occasion that I’m caught without nail polish!  I actually went 3 days without it because I just didn’t have the time to sit down long enough to paint them.

March 13 – It’s been about a month since I wore my red lipstick to work.  I was wearing black and grey so this spiced it up.  If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve seen this photo already because it’s my new avatar!  It had been 9 months since I changed my photo so I thought now was a good time.

March 14 – A coworker brought her daughter over on Wednesday night for me to do her nails for their trip to Disney.  She originally wanted the look I did for our Disney trip, but changed her mind once she got there.  She had small nails for me to work with but I think it turned out cute!

March 15 – I tried pattern mixing!  I wanted to wear my black/grey leopard print scarf with this originally, but I had worn it earlier in the week.  I think it still worked though as the tank I choose pulled out the red/coral in the scarf.  What do you think?

March 16 – Friday was such a busy day for me at work.  Then Hubby and I went out for date night to Red Robin afterwards and I completely failed to take a photo.  I blame it on the week frying my brain.

March 17 – Happy St. Paddy’s Day!  We didn’t do anything special to celebrate {but did you catch my manicure?} because we had more painting to do.  We finally finished Xander’s room, and I couldn’t be more relieved it’s finally done!  Well, the painting anyway…the room is far from done :\

Hope you had a great week!

Did you do anything fun to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

St. Patrick’s Day Nails

March 15, 2012 by Trina 16 Comments

I’ve been wanting to start offering up nail ideas prior to fun holidays so I figured what the heck…let’s start with St. Patrick’s Day.

I originally was going to go with a shamrock accent nail, but I attempted that idea and didn’t love it.  I browsed Pinterest and Youtube and decided to go with a rainbow and pot o’ gold after seeing this pin.

I did these at like 11pm last night so this post was not thought out prior to or else I would have better pictures to share with you.

Here are the polishes I used:

The basic How To:

You will need:

  • Colors of the rainbow polishes {opaque as possible}
  • Black polish
  • Gold polish {mine is Midnight Kiss by China Glaze, it’s a very saturated gold}
  • White polish, not pictured
  • Gold glitter polish-optional, not pictured
  • Dotting tool
  • Small art brush or nail brush.  Mine isn’t pictured but it’s very thin, about the size of a pencil lead.

I painted all of my nails green except for my ring finger. I used Lucky Duck by Orly.

I painted two coats of white on my ring finger and topped that with a gold glitter polish {not necessary, but fun}.

Once that is dry, begin painting your rainbow on with your small brush.  I let a drop or two of polish fall from the brush onto a plastic lid and dip the brush into the drops.  I started with the red and painted it on in sort of a fan, going from around the middle to the outer edge.  I followed suite with the rest of the rainbow colors.

When your rainbow is dry, dot on the black in a round shape with your dotting tool at the base of the rainbow.  Then take your art brush and “cap” off the black dot, creating the lip of the pot.

After the pot is dry, dot on your opaque gold polish for the coins.  I placed mine at the top and scattered some around the base and sides too.  I probably should have gone with a smaller dot for the coins, but it’s still cute I think.

Once everything is dry, top with a fast drying top coat.  I used Seche Vite.

Hope you enjoyed this mani and tutorial!

WIWW on All Things Chic

March 14, 2012 by Trina 2 Comments

Hi and Happy Wednesday!  I have another outfit from this weekend to share with you.

As you know, my 8 year old takes my photos and she’s been doing pretty good.  However, I had to practically make her take my photo Sunday, she just didn’t want to do it.  My 6 year old was jumping up and down wanting to be the one to take photos, but I just can’t trust him yet with my camera.

So I hope you enjoy this outfit and know that behind the camera that day was a scowling little girl.  All for the sake of WIWW, ha!

{Click photo to enlarge}

I’ve realized….I wear A LOT of black.  Must remedy that, especially with Spring on it’s way!

Head over to All Things Chic to get the details on this outfit and to see more Everyday Style.
