2012 Week 15

April 16, 2012 by Trina 3 Comments

I have GOT to get my bloggy mojo back.  I had things to blog about last week, but really had no motivation.  I’ve just been in a slump or something.

Anyway, I hope you all had a great week.  Here’s a look at some of mine.

April 8 – Easter Sunday.  We typically go visit my mom’s family for Easter but some things came up and changed our plans so we just hang out at my mom’s for a bit.  And of course the kids hunted eggs.

April 9 – Xander had begged and begged me for weeks to buy a watermelon.  I finally broke down and bought one for a whopping $6.49 {and it was a mini mind you!}.  Turns out, Xander doesn’t like watermelon.  Needless to say that’s the last time I buy one.

April 10 – Got my April Birchbox!  Was excited to find a cuticle and hand salve in a light lemon scent.  I’ve been applying before bed.  Love it.  {On my nails, Renee by Julep.}

April 11 – Black+red+white.  I will always love this color combo even though I am trying not to wear so much black.  {Stay tuned on that note…I went shopping this weekend!}

April 12 – Bunco night…or if you’re with my group it’s BONKO night haha.  I started out doing great, got 4 Bonkos in a row on the first round!  My luck ended there, went home a loser haha.  Do you play Bunco/Bonko?

April 13 – Friday the THIRTEENTH!  I got a fun package in the mail…Julep’s Spring Mystery Box.  Nail polish makes even Friday the 13th a good day.

April 14 – Had the house to myself for a few hours.  Ahhhh…. quiet time!  I played around with the flat iron and did some waves in my hair.  Then I got ready and went shopping!  More on that in a later post…or I might show you what I got gradually through outfit posts.  But if you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ve seen most of what I got.  In a crappy cell phone pic anyway.  I do have two of the pieces I purchased coming up on Wednesday for WIWW though so stay tuned.

2012 Week 14

April 9, 2012 by Trina 2 Comments

Day late…dollar short.

I meant to post this last night but time got away from me.  Not that any of you were hanging on the edge of your seats waiting for it or anything ;)

Here’s how my week looked:

April 1 – My hubs is a fool for love.  He gladly helped me take off my polish so I didn’t ruin the other hand I’d just painted :)

April 2 – Relaxing after a long Monday…Xander asked if he could put his head on my tummy.

April 3 – New mani.  Penelope from my April Julep Maven box.  {And I’m still wearing it a week later! haha}

April 4 – Daddy/Daughter and Mommy/Little Man date night.  Hubs and Rayna went to eat Chinese and Xander and I headed for Mexican.

April 5 – We had some crazy weather and some dark storm clouds moved in.  After it rained the sky turned orange on one side and on the other there was a double rainbow but this was the best I could catch of it with my cell phone.  Later the sky turned hot pink.  It was incredible.

April 6 – It’d been a LONG week, I was waiting for my mom outside work.  This was the only pic I took that day, I was beat.

April 7 – My kids’ first time getting ice cream from the ice cream truck.  I thought I was the only mom that avoided these but some people on Twitter said they told their kids it was the “music truck”.  Haha!

We also went to Easter services on Saturday night and I’ll be dog gone if I didn’t forget to get a pic of all of us.  :(

Hope you had a fabulous week and blessed Easter weekend!

WIWW: Peacock and Leopard Print

April 4, 2012 by Trina 6 Comments

A combo that I’m loving right now is leopard print and peacock feathers/colors.  They just work so well together.

While I was playing dress up in my closet over the weekend I came up with this look.  Click to enlarge.

{And yes, I know, my feet are veiny…so are my hands.  haha  I guess that means I’m well hydrated. *shrugs*}

I’m looking at leopard print more and more as a neutral.  And if I’m wrong I don’t wanna be right.  Because I love it so.

What do you think?

Teal shrug from NY&Co 2 years ago {similar}, green micro rib tank from Target recently, black knit skirt from Wet Seal clearance rack {similar}, really old chunky belt with gold medallion buckle, brand new leopard pumps from Sole Society.  Necklace is the Pin Up necklace from Jewelmint with an added peacock feather charm, chunky two tone ring I picked up at my hair salon, and assorted gold, silver and peacock bangles {similar and similar}.  Polish is my DIY Caviar Fruit Themed manicure.

Linking up with TransAtlantic Blonde for WIWW.

Caviar Fruit Themed Mani

April 2, 2012 by Trina 21 Comments

One of the new nail trends popping up is the Caviar mani made popular by a British company called Ciate.  Ciate offers three color kits: black, pearl and rainbow.  But they are all on back order at the moment and retail for 18 Euros each.

As soon as I saw it on Pinterest, I knew it would be an easy DIY if I could find the right beads.  I found some at Michael’s and although it didn’t include black like the original Caviar mani, there were lots of yummy spring and summer colors to play with.

I messaged my mani obsessed friend Jenn and we decided to do a link up to show you how fun and easy these little microbead manis can be.  We thought a fruit theme would be fun so Jenn decided to do a Lemon Lime mani.  After much hemming and hawing {and lots of polish changes!} I finally chose Raspberry Orange.  We also decided to keep it low key and just add the beads on an accent nail.  Although if you are so inclined you can totally go full throttle on this ;)

I just love these colors!  They are so fresh and vibrant.

Since there is already a how to out there from the original Caviar mani, I didn’t take step by step photos.  However, this mani is super easy so I’ll give you a quick how to.

You’ll need:

  • Microbeads  {Either this Martha Stewart set from Michael’s, or these from Born Pretty.  Jenn said Hobby Lobby nor Joann’s had these kinds of beads.}
  • Base coat
  • Top coat
  • Polish color of your choice {I used Make an Entrance {pink} and Sun Worshiper {orange} both by China Glaze}

Simple How To:

  1. Brush on a base coat.  Once dry apply your polish color of choice, as many coats as it takes to be opaque.  {I had to use 4 with Sun Worshiper!}
  2. Next, apply another coat of polish color to the nail you want to bead and while the polish is still wet sprinkle the beads over your nail.  {I used a Birchbox lid to catch my extra beads in ;) }  Sprinkle until the entire nail is covered.
  3. Lightly press the beads into the wet polish and allow to dry.
  4. Add a top coat to any plain polished nails.

Some tips:

It’s up to you whether or not you want to add a top coat on the beads.  I found that adding one over the beads didn’t look as good, but the downside is it won’t last long without one.  In that case these are good manis for special occasions or a fun night out on the town.  {The clear ones look AMAZING over black polish!}

Like I mentioned above, I used a Birchbox lid to catch my extra beads in.  Any small rigid container should work, maybe even some Rubbermaid plastic wear.  That will keep things neat and you’ll be able to pour your beads back into your bottle afterward.  Don’t want to waste any!

So what do you think?  Would you wear this new nail trend?

Don’t forget to hop over to Jenn’s and check out her adorable Lemon Lime Caviar Mani, it turned out so cute!

2012 Week 13

April 1, 2012 by Trina 4 Comments

Friends, I feel like I’ve really neglected the blog lately and feel really disconnected from y’all.  This makes me sadz. :(

I dunno what’s up but March seemed like the longest and busiest month ever.  So glad it’s over!

With that said, Happy April and I hope you and I can get acquainted again.  :)

Here’s my 13th week of 2012 in pics:

March 25 – After church the fam and I went to eat with my mom.  Xander and I rode in my car and snapped a quick photo in the parking lot.  I love this lil guy!  Isn’t he handsome!?

March 26 – Monday, oh Monday.  I had to make you more tolerable with these yummy vegan no bake cookies.  They’re really just sort of like dough really, shaped into cookies haha.  But very good.  I ate all of them by myself.  Don’t judge.

March 27 – Tuesday I stepped out in my new leopard print pumps from Sole Society.  After looking for MONTHS for the perfect leopard print pumps I found them here and got $15 off since it was my first purchase from them.  These have a bit more toe cleavage than I prefer, but it’s bearable.  Sole Society is a shoe of the month club but there are no fees and no need to Skip the Month if you can’t purchase.  All shoes are $49.95 with free shipping and returns.  You can try Retail Me Not for current coupons.

March 28 – I started to share a photo of me at my 6 month dental cleaning, but who wants to see that?  haha.  Instead I’ll show you the DIY woven chain bracelet I made last year.  Muuuuch better.

March 29 – Love this chiffon top from Tulle.  I think I’ve actually shared this in another one of these posts.  But I got tons of compliments on it that day.  Including one from the Chinese lady on the 9th floor of my building that doesn’t speak very good English.  But the way she went on and with all the nodding I could tell she really REALLY liked it.  Ha!

March 30 – Friday was an unofficial date night and by the time we got out to do anything it was already 8pm.  So hubs and I took a trip to TJ Maxx to browse around.  I’ve been obsessing over J’s Everyday Fashion blog and adding more color to my wardrobe so I tried stepping out of my comfort zone {wearing tons of black}.  Old habits die hard and needless to say none of these things went home with me.  Hubs said I should have been a goth.  {I spy a blue eye!}

March 31 – Saturday was such a busy and yet lazy day!  I didn’t even leave the house, but I did a lot.  I filed our taxes, did some sewing – even busted out my serger that hasn’t seen the light of day in about a year – and played dress up in my closet.  I also had some spa time and even used my self tanner!  All that and this is the most exciting pic I have for you.

Ok, I have to share a story from Friday that I tweeted about but bears repeating on the blog because it was just one of those things where you think to yourself “This is NOT happening!”.

Friday at work I was moving some files from one cabinet to another and I squatted down next to a drawer and shifted my weight to put the files into the cabinet and I felt my right knee LOCK.  Yes, it locked!  This knee locking was very common for me when I was a kid.  I would sit in front of the TV when I was young with my legs folded underneath me and they would sometimes lock in place and I couldn’t move, couldn’t stand up!  It would put me in a state of panic but they would eventually unlock.

BUT this has not happened to me in over 20 years so when it did on Friday it was very surreal.  I was squatting there in my office right in front of my open door with my hands on the floor in front of me thinking “THIS IS NOT HAPPENING!”.   Oh but it was.  I started to call out to the girl across the hall, but it was all so embarassing that I decided not to.  Right about then of all people guess who walks past my office…the big boss.  I was hoping he would keep walking but he stopped and I could see his shoes in front of me.  I managed to squeak out a “My knee is locked. I can’t stand up.”  I was thinking surely he thought I was nuts because who has knees that lock in place?!  So I started laughing and then….THEN I started crying because I was so embarrassed and just beside myself with “THIS IS NOT HAPPENING!”

One of the girls in the office started asking if she should call the MET team {medical emergency} and I was like NO! haha  That was the last thing I wanted and I knew it wasn’t necessary.  The big boss wanted to help me into a chair, but I could NOT stand up.  I tried a few times and it hurt so bad.  Everyone was just standing around helpless to assist me.

After a few minutes {that seemed like EONS} I managed to roll over onto my bottom and pull my bent knee up in front of me and then it finally unlocked.  I was just CHAWED as Kelly would say.  I just couldn’t believe all that was happening!  My supervisor and another coworker showed up after all the drama and I was still wiping away tears so I had to explain what had just happened.  Phew…what a day!  haha!

Hope you had a fantabulous week with no CHAWED moments! :)

Stay tuned…I have a VERY exciting mani coming up soon!

WIWW on All Things Chic

March 28, 2012 by Trina 2 Comments

I mentioned Monday that I got to be a part of a video shoot for Southern Living.  The dress “requirements” were Spring colors so I thought “no biggie” and combed my closet for something not white, not black and no patterns.

And I realized…um…I need more Spring stuff in my closet.  So I went to Kohl’s at 8:30pm the night before and got this cocoon cardigan because otherwise I’d be wearing a plain purple tee.  And that clearly wasn’t happening :)

Yellow is sort of a stretch for me because I’m not sure it’s the best for my skin tone but it was the best fit for this cardigan.  It’s not exactly a “Trina” outfit, but sometimes it’s good to break out of what we normally wear, right?

Hop on over to All Things Chic for details on my outfit and more Everyday Style!
