Checking in…

January 23, 2012 by Trina 11 Comments

Oh.  Hi.  I didn’t intend to let 2 weeks go by without posting.  But I think it was good for me.  So much has happened and I was really too busy to post.

Not a full week into my fast my sister came in for a visit and to help me go through Dad’s things.  As her visit approached I started to get really nervous about fasting while she was here.  I didn’t want her to feel like she had to eat the foods I was cooking and I knew she’d want to go out once or twice.  I prayed about it and really felt ok to break the fast for one of the three meals I’d eat each day while she was with us.  Two of the meals each day, as well as snacks, stayed DF friendly.

While Tanna was here, things were non-stop.  We immediately got to work cleaning out Dad’s dresser and closet.  After two days went by I started to really get nervous we would run out of time.  He didn’t have a ton of stuff, but there were lots of little things to go through.  Pins, police and security badges, photos, a scrapbook full of newspaper clippings from his time as a police man, my grandmother’s 7th grade report card from 1914 and a photo of her from when she was about 6 or 7, a century old.  Really neat finds.  Also, my dad saved a lot of stuff he shouldn’t have..like old mail so there was shredding to do too.  Once we went through everything and divided it all up, we got photos together to scan onto a disk so copies could be made. Fortunately we got it all done.

In our downtime in the evenings, we knitted.  She taught me how to purl and gave me the pattern for a ribbed cowl using the knit and purl stitches.  I didn’t think I’d finish it before she left, but I did!  I liked her needles and thick yarn so much, I went and bought some of my own so I could make another cowl.  Here’s the first one I made…

worn with my peacock pin handmade by me and my Jewelmint ring.  polish is Moxie by Zoya.

I made another one this weekend, I literally just finished sewing the ends together on it an hour ago.  I haven’t taken photos of it yet so I’ll share that with you later.

The other thing I mentioned I had coming up was the Supermarket Tour.  I did that on Saturday morning with two girls from my Bunco group.  I’m glad my first one was with people I knew and it turns out two was a good number of people to have on my first tour.  It was a lot of fun and I got feedback from both of them that they enjoyed their time with me and learned a lot so that was encouraging.  I may schedule another one for February and we’ll see where this goes.

Also I finally had some time this weekend to take some photos of my January Birchbox samples, Julep Maven polishes and record two new scarf videos so be looking for those this week.

Hope you all have been well!  Thanks to those of you who checked up on me and have prayed for me!

January 18 – Knitting again…smaller needles and thinner yarn but same pattern as the blue cowl.

January 19 – My hair hasn’t been this long in a really long time. I have a tiny ponytail! haha

January 20 – Tried a new recipe…Apple Cinnamon Hot Cereal.

January 21 – Knitting again!  I had to take a break from the small needles {they’re so intense to me!} and started another cowl with the big needles.

I’m not starting the year out great with my new photo project.  So I’m playing catch up today {and I’m post-dating these so don’t get confused ;) }.

Also I decided I preferred a collage better than the slideshow. :)

January 8 – My first pair of earrings from Bauble Bar

January 9 – National Champions!  Roll Tide :)

January 10 – New mani, Kelly by Zoya

January 11 – Snuggling with Bubba {my nickname for Xander than I never intended to call him, but just can’t help myself.}

January 12 – The revamped waterfall style way to wear a scarf.

January 13 – Discovered a photo of my Dad’s mom from when she was very young. This photo is over 100 years old.

January 14 – Xander eats ribs for the first time!  And loves them.  He’s a true Southern boy now :)

How To Wear a Cowl

I made this video a week or so ago and thought I’d go ahead and share it with y’all today.

Enjoy!

I get a lot of people asking where I got the cowl.  Kodi made it. :)

Embarking on another fast…

January 9, 2012 by Trina 5 Comments

Every year in January my church leads a 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting.  They have prayer at the church each morning at 6am during the fast {9am on Saturday}, and even live stream it for those that can’t attend.

I did the Daniel Fast last April and really enjoyed what I learned through that, so I decided I’d fast along with the church by doing another Daniel Fast.  Kristen Feola, author of the Ultimate Daniel Fast website and book, is hosting another fast that started yesterday as well.  I’ve signed up for her daily devotional and I’ll be using her recipes like I did last time.  I’m trying a few new ones so I’m excited.

Yesterday’s message at church was the kick off for the fast and it was so so good.  I highly recommend watching or listening if you’ve ever dealt with addictions {and we all have, they just may not be drugs or alcohol} or you grow increasingly frustrated with yourself that there are things you do and can’t stop doing.  Or why you make the same resolutions every year and each year nothing changes.  Please do yourself a favor and go listen.  It’s likely to change your view on addictions as well as prayer and fasting.

There is a lot I’m seeking the Lord about in these three weeks.  I want to know him on a deeper level.  I want the Holy Spirit to identify and give me power to dethrone any idols I’ve placed in my heart above him.  I want direction on what exactly to do with my nutrition education.  I want to see people I love get fired up for the Lord and get involved with a local church.  I want to see people I love using their talents to glorify Him and reach people for Christ.  I want Jonathan and I to be the best parents we can be to our kids, showing them that God isn’t just someone we talk about, but that he’s active in our every day lives and craves a relationship with us.  I want our kids to be in love with Jesus and want to glorify Him in everything they do.  I want to be less selfish and be more prayerful regarding others needs.

I know here lately one of my idols has been this blog and obsessing over how to make it bigger/better/more popular.  I don’t want to do that.  I want Him to use this blog for His glory.  Even when I’m posting about nail polish and clothes.  Because the Lord will use those things to draw people in and maybe they’ll click the About page and read more about me and then click on my church’s link.  Who knows.  But if this blog never grows to reach thousands of people a day, that should be ok with me.  I just want to do what He’s called me to do.

So I dunno what the next three weeks will look like around here.  I’ve got my sister coming in town this week to help me go through my dad’s things.  And in less than 2 weeks from now I’ll conduct my very first Supermarket Tour for my health coaching side business which I’m preparing for now.  {So PS if you are in the Birmingham area, I’d love for you to join me!}  I’m excited and nervous all at the same time but I’m trusting that it’s going to be great!

2012 Week 1

January 8, 2012 by Trina 3 Comments

I decided for this year that I’d post a slide show of photos taken the previous week. I’ll strive to take them with my big camera, but sometimes all I have is my phone with me.

Enjoy :)

January 1 – We bought “cuties” for the first time. Love them!

January 2 – I was bothering Xander with all my photo taking.

January 3 – My new socks arrived!

January 4 – New mani, Trina by Julep.  I had to get this color since we share a name :)

January 5 – Really loving these “cuties”.  Ate at least two a day this week.  They smell so good!

January 6 – The “creed of those who have suffered”, posted near my office.

January 7 – Xander lost his first tooth, but I wasn’t there to experience it with him.  He’s such a big boy now!

That was my first week of 2012.  Hope yours was fab!
