Checking in…

January 23, 2012 by Trina 11 Comments

Oh.  Hi.  I didn’t intend to let 2 weeks go by without posting.  But I think it was good for me.  So much has happened and I was really too busy to post.

Not a full week into my fast my sister came in for a visit and to help me go through Dad’s things.  As her visit approached I started to get really nervous about fasting while she was here.  I didn’t want her to feel like she had to eat the foods I was cooking and I knew she’d want to go out once or twice.  I prayed about it and really felt ok to break the fast for one of the three meals I’d eat each day while she was with us.  Two of the meals each day, as well as snacks, stayed DF friendly.

While Tanna was here, things were non-stop.  We immediately got to work cleaning out Dad’s dresser and closet.  After two days went by I started to really get nervous we would run out of time.  He didn’t have a ton of stuff, but there were lots of little things to go through.  Pins, police and security badges, photos, a scrapbook full of newspaper clippings from his time as a police man, my grandmother’s 7th grade report card from 1914 and a photo of her from when she was about 6 or 7, a century old.  Really neat finds.  Also, my dad saved a lot of stuff he shouldn’t have..like old mail so there was shredding to do too.  Once we went through everything and divided it all up, we got photos together to scan onto a disk so copies could be made. Fortunately we got it all done.

In our downtime in the evenings, we knitted.  She taught me how to purl and gave me the pattern for a ribbed cowl using the knit and purl stitches.  I didn’t think I’d finish it before she left, but I did!  I liked her needles and thick yarn so much, I went and bought some of my own so I could make another cowl.  Here’s the first one I made…

worn with my peacock pin handmade by me and my Jewelmint ring.  polish is Moxie by Zoya.

I made another one this weekend, I literally just finished sewing the ends together on it an hour ago.  I haven’t taken photos of it yet so I’ll share that with you later.

The other thing I mentioned I had coming up was the Supermarket Tour.  I did that on Saturday morning with two girls from my Bunco group.  I’m glad my first one was with people I knew and it turns out two was a good number of people to have on my first tour.  It was a lot of fun and I got feedback from both of them that they enjoyed their time with me and learned a lot so that was encouraging.  I may schedule another one for February and we’ll see where this goes.

Also I finally had some time this weekend to take some photos of my January Birchbox samples, Julep Maven polishes and record two new scarf videos so be looking for those this week.

Hope you all have been well!  Thanks to those of you who checked up on me and have prayed for me!

  1. Glad you got to spend time with your sister.

And look at you… you know the purl stitch now. No stopping you! You can knit ANYTHING now! :)

    • Thanks! It was totally awkward at first, but I’ve got the purl stitch down now :) One thing I’m still learning is to back out stitches…my sister had to come to the rescue a few times haha

  2. Hey Trina, so glad things went so well for you during this time when you and Tanna had to go through your dad’s things, I know it must have been hard, but you and she had each other and also time to relax and she taught you how to knit your cowl and it is really pretty- you did a great job and considering I know nothing about knitting I do know when I do see something nice and pretty though. I am also glad your fast is going good and I will continue to pray for you and your fast and that God will continue to bless you and your famiily and that He will continue to guide you. We have missed ya :)

  3. Glad things went well with your sis and the fasting. I have done a couple fasts and they are always such a great experience of renewed strength and peace :) ~ One of my resolutions is to learn how to knit this year- and this post makes me want to that much more- I love that cowl and the peacock pin- fantastic!! :)

    • You should find a buddy and learn together! That helps a lot. I’d gotten out of the habit of knitting and when my sister came, it sparked up in me again :)

  4. oh my goodness! you have been busy. now i see why i was missing you :) the cowl is amazing!!! i was knitting a scarf with my sister once and i remember knitting like a mad woman trying to finish it while we were together lol. im glad to see everything is going well and i’m so happy to hear (on twitter) that you are ok after those nasty storms.

    • It’s been such a crazy time. And now with the tornadoes :( I keep hoping things will settle down, but it’s always something. Trying to roll with the punches ;)

  5. Glad you are o.k. I’ve missed you ! Knowing how to do handiwork and making things is so fun. Your project turned out beautiful. Hope you all weren’t near those freaky tornados that hit Alabama today !!!

  6. I really believe God puts us n certain places at certain times for reasons. I have been truly blessed and inspired by your blog. Without knowing you very well(just sat and read about 4 mths of post for 1st time) we have quite a lot n common. I lost my dad 4 yrs ago n a tragic car accident. He was 53. It takes time but it gets easier. Memories r so important. Just think bout that when planning ur everyday activities with ur fam. Make memories! We can rejoice that one day we WILL c them again! So mark down one good thing u did 2day, u sure blessed me!!!!
