Last night after dinner, I gave each of my kids a handful of candy corn for dessert. Then they sat down to watch Noggin while I did some things around the house. A little while later, my sweet little man asked for more candy corn and I told him NO. He had had enough.
The look on his face was that of a crack addict who couldn’t get their next hit.
Ya’ll, he went berserk! And I stood there in shock for about 5 seconds then explained why he couldn’t have anymore, but he wasn’t listening. He wanted that candy corn.
So he screamed and cried for almost an hour, past his bedtime and I was nearly at my wits end. He finally settled down and went to sleep.
So this morning, a new day, I was his favorite parent again and he didn’t bring up the candy corn thing. I thought “Phew, glad that’s over, he must have just been very tired last night.”
While I’m in the bathroom getting ready for work after they had breakfast, Rayna starts hollering that Xander got the candy corn. He had dragged a chair over to the counter from the dining room table so he could reach it and was sitting on the floor eating it. Rayna had taken it away from him to bring it to me and he went after her full force, screaming, and crying and HITTING her with both arms and a look of a shear hatred on his face.
So it’s official. Candy corn is like crack cocaine to my son. He’s a candy corn junkie and I think I might have to throw it away to avoid another tantrum. Thank goodness it was free cuz I hate throwing stuff out that I paid good money for. For now, it’s in the top shelf of the freezer, where he can’t get to it.
I want to know. Is my kid the only one that goes berserk over a certain treat?
